What better way to treasure that special photo of a beloved pet than by having it created by Helen Richman, owner of The Bluebird Embroidery Company as a hand stitched piece of artwork.
Silk Shading, also know as Needle Painting, is the perfect hand embroidery technique for pet portraits. Using DMC and Anchor stranded cottons on a cotton background fabric, your photograph will be replicated to an amazing likeness.
After placing an order, Helen will be in touch to discuss the details of the piece before work will commence.
To create your pet in silk shading, first the thread colours need to be selected; these are carefully matched as closely as possible to those in your photograph(s). Any number of colours can be used and depends upon the complexity of the original photograph. The image outline is then transferred to fabric which is stretched within a slate frame. The background will be removed and replaced by a solid block of colour chosen during consultation with yourself. The silk shading embroidery is then carefully worked, each stitch being precisely considered in order to recreate the texture and movement of your pet's fur, hair or feathers.
The completed embroidery is then readied for you to frame by being mounted around acid free card and given a backing of a complimentary coloured backing fabric. Mounting textile pieces in this way ensures that they will last for many years and can be enjoyed for generations.
Important notice: when selecting a photograph it is worth remembering that high quality images are far easier for Helen to replicate. It is helpful to submit several photographs to be used for her reference and even a combination of a couple of photographs can be used in one design.
Images can be portrait, landscape or square. The dimensions given are an approximate guide and will be altered to best fit your bespoke artwork.
