Goldwork And Silk Shading Ely Knot

Combine the traditional hand embroidery techniques of Goldwork and Silk Shading to create this beautiful Ely Knot design on a background of ivory silk dupion fabric.

This design will introduce you to many of the stitches and techniques which are essential in the art of Goldwork and Silk Shading embroidery including: split stitch, long and short stitch, applying soft string and felt padding, applying gold kid leather and gold spangles as well as using gilt metal threads such as Pearl Purl, Bright Check, Smooth Purl and Japanese Thread. Goldwork techniques known as couching, chipping and cutwork are also used in this design.

 This kit includes all of the threads, fabrics and needles required to complete this elegant hand embroidery design and the clear instruction booklet with step by step photographs will guide you easily through your project.

The traditional ivory silk dupion background fabric is provided with the design already transferred on for you.

Materials included in the kit: calico fabric, ivory silk dupion fabric, size 10 embroidery needle, plunging needle, DMC stranded cotton threads, Gutermann machine thread, soft string, felt, gilt metal threads, kid leather and beeswax.

Difficulty level: Advanced -this kit would be suitable for those who have had a go at goldwork embroidery before.

Additional equipment required: 10 inch ring frame and embroidery scissors.

Other useful equipment: goldwork scissors and other goldwork embroidery tools such as a mellor, stiletto and velvet board may also be useful but are not essential.
