Garden Birds: Blue Tit - Original Hand Embroidery
£320.00
Original hand embroidery of a Blue Tit from the Garden Bird collection. This beautifully detailed little bird sat upon a large needle took approximately 20 hours to embroider using a combination of two techniques called silk shading and stumpwork.
Silk shading, sometimes known as 'painting with the needle' was used to replicate the delicate soft texture of the feathers by blending together eight shades of stranded cotton threads, each one inserted into an individual needle and used simultaneously. Each stitch was carefully considered to create the direction and movement of the feathers.
Stumpwork, also known as raised work embroidery, was used to create the three-dimensional quality of this design such as the thread wrapped wired feet along with the padding underneath the body of the bird.
The embroidery has been stitched directly onto a background of 14 count ivory aida fabric and is displayed within a 4 inch ring frame.
This piece is mounted on card covered in 'dark olive' cotton fabric and is elegently framed in a plain wooden box frame, ready for display. The frame measures 20cmx20cm.
