Spend a creative day with expert hand embroiderer Helen Richman at the Royal School Of Needlework.

Learn the delicate art of silk shading to create this beautiful and colourful design Rainbow Bee Eaters In The Mulla Mulla. Based on the original watercolour painting by Perth artist Tom Montgomery, the stitching is used to build up the texture, movement and shading of these characterful birds.

This one-day class will introduce you to split stitch, satin stitch and long and short stitch, as well as providing guidance and instruction on stitch direction, density and angle, order of working and colour placement and blending, all of which are essential when building up shading and texture in a piece of silk shading.

This class is suitable for all abilities, whether you have done silk shading embroidery before or not, Helen will guide you through the project step by step, first demonstrating each technique before you have a go on your own piece.

Helen will provide a kit of all fabrics, threads and needles required for the day with the design already printed onto fabric. You will also get a detailed instruction booklet with notes and progress photos to keep as reference after your day.

Taught in a small informal group, expect a day of fun and inspiration!
