Metal Thread Hand Embroidery Workshop, £65 per person

Spend a creative day with expert hand embroiderer Helen Richman at Heritage Courtyard Gallery and Studios, nestled in the stunning historic city of Wells.

Learn how to stitch with a range of metal hand embroidery threads and how to combine them with decorative surface stitching to create this beautifully detailed Tawny Owl Feather.

Suitable for all abilities from beginners to those with some creative experience, this elegant design will introduce you to metal thread techniques including couching, decorative couching and chipping working with a range of gilt metal threads including Japanese Thread, Pearl Purl and Bright Check. The decorative embroidery stitches in tones of tawny brown stranded cotton include long and short stitch and fly stitch.

Helen will provide a kit of all fabrics, threads and needles required for the day with the design already printed onto fabric. You will also get a detailed instruction booklet with notes and progress photos to keep as reference after your day.

Helen lives in Bruton, Somerset with her husband, daughter and spaniel. She completed a three year apprenticeship at the Royal School Of Needlework in 2009 and since then has been regularly teaching at the school as well as running her own business The Bluebird Embroidery Company. Helen teaches embroidery classes across the UK and internationally, creates bespoke pieces of textile artwork and commissions and has designed a wide range of embroidery kits which will be available to purchase on the day.
