Silk Shading Harvest Mouse Workshop, £125 per person

Spend a creative day with expert hand embroiderer Helen Richman at the Royal School Of Needlework learning how to stitch this charming Harvest Mouse design. 

Often referred to as painting with a needle, silk shading is a beautiful hand embroidery technique which can be used to create stunning designs which have an almost photographic quality. It is achieved using a variety of long and short straight stitches and colour blending.

This one-day course will set you up with the basic skills of silk shading; replicating the texture of fur with stitch, blending colours and shading, how to work split stitch, satin stitch and long and short stitch, where on a design each of these should be used, and planning your order of work. 

This class is suitable for all abilities, whether you have done silk shading embroidery before or not, Helen will guide you through the project step by step, first demonstrating each technique before you have a go on your own piece. 

Helen will provide a kit of all fabrics, threads and needles required for the day with the design already printed onto fabric. You will also get a detailed instruction booklet with notes and progress photos to keep as reference after your day.

Taught in a small informal group, expect a day of fun and inspiration!
